"MOVIE CRAZY" WORTH WAITING 2 YEARS
TO SEE..
It's been two years since Harold Lloyd net treated his fans to one of his films. That's a long time to wait for a Lloyd picture, and yet as "Movie Crazy," with Constance Cummings, the film to break the long silence, unwinds itself to-morrow it will be seen that a Lloyd pleture is worth wait- ing two years or even more to sec.
To say that." Movie Crazy" is the best picture, Lloyd has ever produced sounds like the atmost extravagance. Yet the soberest consideration points to that conclusion. It is chuck fall of brand new gags and of some of the old ones dressed up as new ones and funnier than ever. It has a good, con- sistent story, a strong supporting cast, and Lloyd himself tops overy previous characterization. Something has happened to the comedian in the last two years. He is subtler, more nature, and generally better actor, and gives the impression that he could carry a story by the force of his personality even if it were not gagged to the hilt with mirth-provoking situations.
Any comedian who can start a sequence on a note of merri- ment and built it without a break, until at the end of seventeen minutes, the audience is literally rolling in the alalea, ts a great comedian. That's what Lloyd does in "Movie Crazy." And the ballroom incident which provides this continuous howl is only one of the many sequences which have their counter- parts only in the big Lloyd successes of the allent days.
In Moyle Crazy," Lloyd has the role of a movie-struck boy in a small town, who goes to Hollywood in shower to a fan magazine advertisement for talent. On the first day there, he wins the enmity of a prominent leading man, falls desper ately in love with a star, sexlously interferes with an important production, and is ejected from the studio, jobless and dis ilusioned. Because of the girl, however, ho sticks, and finally, of course, wins both the girl and a contract, the latter in a strictly accidental way.
Constance Cummings, in the role of the girl, proven about: the best leading woman Lloyd has had since Bebo Danisia. Her role is not the usual purely decorativo variety, but requires).. an actress of genuine ability, for reasons which will be evident when you see this fall-filled fim which you certainly must do,"
It is a difficult role, but Miss Cummings more than meets its challenge
The comedian has also surrounded himself with such com- petant players as Kenneth Thomsen, Louise Closser, Hale, DeWitt Jennings, Harold Goodwin and ethere, and has enllated exceptional talert in the writing of the story and screen play. Agnos Christine Johnsen, Felix Adler and John Gray collabor ated with Lloyd on the story and the screen play, and dialogue wore the work of Vincent Lawrence, Broadway playwright...

· MATTER OF WISE POLICY.
Either as a matter of policy or superstition, most famous screen personalities have some littlė idiosyncrasy which usually follows them in every picture in which they appear.
Harold Lloyd, for instance, usually gives his screen character, his own first name. Thus, in his next picture," Movie Crazy," with Constance Cummings, which comes to-morrow to this Theatre, his screen character is called "Harold Hall." With Lloyd it is a matter of policy rather than an idiosyncrasy because he believes that by calling his character Harold it gives the audience a more intimate feeling for his screen personality.
Another of Lloyd's idiosyncrasies the wearing of horn-rimmed spectacles →→ ended by “ becoming a world-wide identification with the famous comedian. He has always treasured the first pair he were in acreen work. When they became broken, he kept them together, with chewing gum, wire, string or any other contri- vance that would keep the pieces of his first talls- man to fame together. He has used many pairs since then but he still keeps the first ones,
