GRIMMETT'S SECRETS

South Australian's New Book.

(Reuter's Special Mail Service.)

In his mission of "Tricking the Bataman"-the title of his second book published in Adelaide Clarence Grimmett has travelled about 100,000 miles. Only one other present-day South Aus- tralian Cricketer has equalled, or may have slightly exceeded, Grim- mett's mileage-V. Y. Richardson, South Australia, has just added more than 20,000 miles to his total by his tour of Canada and the United States with Arthur Mailey's team. He has been to England jonce, and has done numerous inter-

State trips.

Grimmett has been twice to Eng land, all round New Zealand, twica to Perth, something like eight times to Brisbane, and has made numerous trips to the other States. One of the chapters in the book, gives a simple method for attain- d direction by young ing length [Teams in black denote probable bowlers.

Clarrie. "The more attractive prae- tice can be made the greater will be the keenness of the players. Al though it is necessary to put în'a lot of hard work, bowling can be, and really in, the most interesting branch of cricket."

"Many bowlers are guilty of bowling off the lcket es pecially when a new batsman comes in", наув Grimmett. "This is a very bad fault. It that the bowler is giving the batsman every as- ' sistance, and is actually play- ing him in.".

means

Although intended summarily to help bowlers much of the advice| given by 'Grimmett should be of. assistance to batemen in enabling them to counter the attacks of the trundlers.

Grimmett propounds a pro- blem. "Can you spin a cric-

· ket ball?” he asks. “Iu otber words, can you make it break or change. Its direction after pitching? If you ́ can't,.... you have missed the most fascinat- Ing phase of bowling."

Babe Ruth, participating in 10 games: World's Serfes in a period of 17 years, has batted the pitching of National League champions for an all-time serlea average of 805.

The Babe did not begin to f uro as a batting star in the base ball classic until he joined the Yankees back in 1921. While a member of the Boston Red Sox, hə served only as a pinch hitter or as [o pitcher. In his three World Series® classics as a member of the Red Sox he garnered only one hit, but he only participated in five games, go ing to the plate 11 times.
