GROWTH OF BLACK
SEA PORTS.
Turkey And Russia In Agreement.
ODESSA'S PROGRESS.
Odessa.
Mr. Ahmed Hamdi Bey, director of the port of Istambul, has arrived) here for the purpose of studying the progress of port construction in the U.S.S.R.
In an iäterview granted to press representatives the Turkish director) stated that there is a firm develop. ment of economic ties between the }port of Istambul and the Black Senį, Ports of the US.S.R. particularly to be seen in the growth of the quan- titles of Soviet bunker coal consum-[ |ed by ships arriving at Istambul.
"While negotiating with repre- sentatives of the Soviet shipping! » organisation in Odessa," said Mr. Bey, "I informed them of the fact: that the Turkish authorities have agreed to refer the arbitration of shipping problema concerning the U.S.S.R. and Turkey to the Naval Arbitration Court in Moscow, in preference to Lloyds.
"My inspection of the port of Odessa." he concluded. "has given
me u most favourable. impression. Odessa is entering the list of first class ports such as Genoa and Marseille. In the matter of equip- ment for the transhipment of oil Odessa is already well in advance of even such excellent seaports as Ant÷) werp. This is substantial proof of the fact that the ports of the U.S.S.R. are beginning to outstrip those of other countries."-Tass.
