MOVE IN TARIFF WAR.
Dublin, To-day:
In order to assist the strug- gling Irish Free State farmers to meet the crisis caused by the British Government's tariff. on farm products from Ireland, a bounty on cattle exports has been declared.
The bounty amounts to 1214 per cent. on the declared value of the cattle leaving the Free State [ports, and 10 per cent on cattle exports crossing into Northern Ireland. The bounty measure is operative from- October 5.
Cattle exports are one of the chief sources of revenue of the
Irish farmer, and indeed, an im-
portant industry of the state. So hard hit are the farmers by
the British duties against them,
and so vigorous "have been their protests against the policy in forcing them into a hopeless com- petition in the British market, that the de Valera Government has found it necessary to pla cate them and to protect them by this means.
