CLOSED.
Plant To Be Kept Efficient.
Rothesay Dock, one of the biggest On the Clyde, is to be closed temporarily.
The decision
was reached at a meeting of the Clyde" Navigation Trustees.
THE CHINA MAIL.
Mr. William Cuthbert (chairman) said that the depression in trade in the West of Scotland. was such that *. the trustees were compelled to close the dock.'
Their imports of iron are and limestone, he said, had been serioua-|
ly reduced and there had also been
falling off in coal shipments, Rothesay Dock was a part of the harbour where that work was done, and for a considerable period it had not been anything like fully employed.

The chairman added that they hoped it would not be long before there was such an Improvement in trade as to justify the reopening of the dock. The plant and machineryed would be kept in a proper state of repair and efficiency.

The trustees also revolved that a discount of 10 per cent. shall bef granted for the use of graving docks for the first three tides, and that the rate for spoolwood (wood) used for making bobbins for! thread) be reduced from 18. 4d. to 6d. per ton on importa of 1,200 tons
and over in-one vessel.
