10,000 PIGEONS LOST

IN FIERCE GALE.

"Fanciers Released Birds For Flight

CAUGHT OVER CHANNEL.

Amsterdam, August 10.

An unexpected consequence of a terrific

storm ... - which' suddenly swept over the English Channel, is the death of some ten thousand valuable carrier pigeons.

The English pigeon fanciers clubs had organiséd a big flight over the Channel, and to this end had sent off thousands of carrier pigeons, practically all of which perished..

The value of the English pigeons killed is estimated at about three

and a half million marks, among the largest losers being Lord Lonsdale.

Some 650 carrier pigeons from Berlin also took part in the event, and of them only 50 have been re-

covered.

A. Lyon in the "Sunday Express."
