Y.M.C.A. WIN TEAM EVENTS

RETURN GALA IN HONG KONG ON SEPTEMBER 24.

The first Unofficial Interport Swimming contest to be staged between Hong Kong and Canton was won by the latter port when the Shameen Swimming Club beat the European YMCA by 31 points to 28 in Canton on Saturday night. A return contest has been arranged and will take place in the "y" bath on Saturday, September 24.

E. W. Railton, the captain of the "Y" team, in an interview with the "China Mall" to-day, said that he thought that the Y.M.C.A. would turn the tables on their Canton opponents in the return encounter and thus win back the flag which he had been forced to hand over to B. Rasmussen, the Shameen captain.

Saturday's events, provided stirring struggles throughout and the standard of swimming witnessed was of a high class. The Sha- meen trio, B. Rasmussen, E. Penfield and B. Schroeter, were largely responsible for their team's narrow victory as between them they secured 21 points out of a total of 31. A. Donn (5), F. Langley (4), W. F. Kerr (3), and S. Garrod (3) were the Y's most successful swimmers.

The dimensions of the Shameen bath did not allow for times being taken which would correspond to standard distances, but it was thought that Rasmussen would have clocked just over 60 secs. for the 100 Yards, which is excellent timing for a fresh water bath. In this event the Shameen flash. led Donn by a yard at the half way stage to win by three yards after a brilliant race. Rasmussen had previously beaten Donn over the shorter distance by two yards."

In the throwing the Polo Ball event Kerr, using his powerful back hand shot, won, comfortably
