His Majesty the King has been pleased to approve the appoint- ment of Sir Hugh" Stephenson, on the retired list of the Indian Civil Service, "as Governor of Burma in succession to Sir Charles Innes whose term of office expires on E. December 20, Sir Hugh retired ast April from the Governorship of Behar' and Orissa. British Wireless Service.
Sir Hugh. Stephenson, educated at Westminster School and later at Christ Church, Oxford, entered the Indian Civil Service in 1895, and 1in 1926 rose to Acting Governor of Bengal, a position he held again in 01930. He is married and has a Ison and a daughter.
Sir Charles Innes has been con-1 1nected with the Indian Civil Ser- vice since 1898 after leaving St. John's College, Oxford. In 1907 1 he was appointed Under-Secretary to the Government of India and he held this post until 1910. He has been Governor of Burma since 1927. He is married and has four sons and one daughter.
