The coolness, and consistency of Messrs. D. C. Luk and S. W. Wong, who were undefeated in all three matches, was most impressive. The fast and accurate service-of-the- former, and the well-timed volleying and overhead work of both players made them a formidable" combina- ition. They, however, encountered: stiff opposition at the hands of D. S. Green and C. Kengelbacker. The K.C.C. pair, started off with spark- ing tennis, in which Mr. Green's sizzling drives and ubiquitous ac-

A WHOLE WEEK'S NEWSPAPERS IN ONE.
Unprecedented crowds, including a good sprinkling of women, swarmed the Special Sessions of the Supreme Court on August 8, when the trial of Cheng Kwok-yau (20), the.... son of a wealthy Ipoh family, who is charged with 'procur- ing the murder of George Fung on March 24 last, was com- menced. Leading Counsel of the Colony are engaged in the "case, which is expected to last a fortnight. Mr. R. E. Lind- sell, opening for the Crown, spoke for close on two hours. Miss Lai Ming-fal, one of the principal witnesses In the case, burst into tears in the witness box, when shown a pic. ture of the murdered man. The case is fully reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
Leaping from the verandah of the first floor of a tene- ment house in Sham Shui Po district, to escape the flames which had swept through the place, a Chinese girl, 12 years old, and middle-aged man, were seriously injured on the night of August 5. The fire occurred at 100 and 102, Pel Ho Street this being the second serious outbreak in the Sham Shui Po district within a week. The cause of the blaze is a mystery. A report is published in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
Disappointment with the delay in the programme of work on the Shing Mun Valley scheme (second section) planned by Government for the remainder of the year, was expressed by Sir Henry Pollock, KC, at the meeting of the Legislative Council held on August 4. Br Henry declared that the sum of $75,000 to be voted for the work was too trivial. Questions dealing with air mail services between Hong Kong and French Indo-China, Canton and Shanghai, were also discussed. A full report of the meeting is con-- tained in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL,
John Kanis (36) married to a pretty Russian girl only a month ago, was found dead in an empty bathtub at the Trocadero Hotel, Hankow Road, in the early hours of August 4. the home players' tactics. It is a tribute to Luk and Wong that after being 2-4 in arrears they took command of the game to win 6-4.
Dunn Unfortunate,
P. Dunn and F. Kengelbacker made a heroic attempt to win glory for the KCC. but failed against the relentless returns of Luk and Wong. The home combination was powerful in its onslaught but some- how failed at the critical moment. Shots made by Dunn, which ordin-. arily would have been winners, were met by a disconcerting opposition. The admirable team-work of the Visitors did much towards securing) for them the match, which they took

K.B.G.C. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY.
It was decided at an extra- ordinary general meeting of the Police Recreation Club last night that the Police would not enter a team in the Football League this year. Of the 28 people present 16 voted against entering the League.
The main reason for the de- cision is the difficulty of ar- : ranging the necessary leave for a representative side to take the field on all occasions.
