Ralph Metcalfe, the 22-year-old Negro youth from Aiarquelle University, in two amazing races to-day eclipsed three world's re: cords and tied another as Indiana won the National Collegiate Ath-, fetic Association track and field championship with 56 points.
Metcalfe, in one of the most sensational individual performances in track history, shattered the world's marks for the 220-yard dash. the. 100 metres and the 200 metres, and tied the accepted world's | record of 9,5 seconds for the 100 Yards.
Metcalfe's performance, topping an afternoon of reckless record- breaking, was hailed as the greatest achievement since Charlie Paddock broke the world's records for the 100 and 220 în one after- noon back in 1921.

This equalled the world's record made by Eddie Tolan, another Negro star, from the University of Michigan.
