Austin recovered brilliantly against Jiro Satoh in his semi-final match to win the first set at 7-5 after being led 5-2. Satoh opened In brilliant style as he was able to keep a firmer foothold on the sippery court than his opponent. In the first few games his ser- vice was good and he kept rallies going. Details of one of the most gigantic financial operations in his- tory, the converting of the £2,000,000,000 3 per cent. war loan, was announced by Mr. Chamberlain in the House of Commons to-day.
From the end of the year the loan will bear Interest of 8% per cent, but holders preferring repayment may receive cash at par on December 1.
Convertees will receive a cash bonus of 1 per cent, on a new loan not to redeemed before 1952. This operation will save the Chancellor of the Exchequer £30,000,000 annually.
