BERNARD & MERLIN IN GREAT CONTEST.
Thrilling Tennis Seen at Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo, April 4. A stirring match between two of France's Davis Cup hopes was wit- nessed here to-day in the final for the Macomber Cup. Marcel Bernard, and Andre Merlin, who gained doubles and singles victories over such players as Perry, Hughes, and Austin, in the recent London-Paris match, were opposed, and the match wvent to Bernard after a hard five- set struggle. Bernard won the first set, but his opponent took the next two and then faltered, winning only] five games in the next two sets.
Rogers in Two Finals.
The main event on the card for the fourth day of the Shanghai Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was the Cham- plons which was won this year by H. Maitland on Mister Cinders. The weather was very poor during the meeting and a slight drizzle tended to upset the calculations of the more daring.
A close race in the Champions witnessed a thrilling finish when Mister Cinders came in by a short head ahead of The Dour Bird, which narrowly defeated Alligator. It was thought at first that Mister Cinders and The Dour Bird had dead-heated, but the decision of the judges dis pelled all anxiety on the part of holders of tickets on Mister Cinders.
The winning numbers in the Champions were as follow:-
Mister Cinders-27064 and 34885.
The Dour Bird-34200 and 54237. Alligator-10911 and 58906.
The following were the results of the fourth day's racing, obtained through the courtesy of the Hong Kong Club:-
The Kluklang Cup. Seven Furlonga.

McNair's Vecherock the final of the singles through A. Merlin scratching.
