As far as one can foresee this is likely to be the last time upon which I will carry out the official inspec- tion of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, as my time is up at the end of this year. However you need have no fear that I will forget you when I leave Hong Kong.

- Will Remember Volunteers.

Regiments pass through China

at an incredible speed and it may be a surprise to some of you to hear that 18 regular battalions have served under me on the China com- mand during the last three years. In consequence It is only natural that I may find a difficulty in a few years time, in not confusing one with another to a certain extent.

But this is not the case' with the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps. I shall always have a very clear recollection of them at my various annual inspections and visite to camp.
