The Chuen Chow was fortunately not far off in the wake of the Venezia and
as she was signsiled to by the Venezia came up and removed the passengers, all of whom were, suffering from severe shock. There was panic at first and some made a rush for the lifeboats, but all were soon quietened by the officers of the Venezia, whose cool- ness brought confidence.
Immediately after the collision, the Venezia drifted a' little and then her anchor was dropped. Then the Chuen Chow took off her pas- sengers, and remained in close proximity of the Venezia until the arrival of the Henry Keswick, when she proceedeed to Macao.
Imprisoned Passengers.
Fine rescue work was immediate- ly undertaken on board the Venezia in the case of two, Chinese passeng- ers who were imprisoned in their telescoped cabin.. The passengers helped in this work, prominent among them being the Hon. Mr. W. B. L. Shenton, Mr. R. H Charles and Mr. L. W. Bush who, with axes, hacked at the wood work until the two Chinese were got at and brought out. These two were seriously injured.“ They were transferred to the Chuen Chow and were admitted to hospital on arrival at Macao.

After the first shock and momentary scare, the passengers of the Venezia acted splendidly and coolly manned lifeboats and got rafts ready for use in case of need, but, thanks to the timely arrival of the Chuen Chow, it was not neces-
