Mark out the shape of the pro- peller on a piece of thin card, to the sizes given, bend on the dot- ted lines, and pass a pin through, as shown at M. Give the pro- peller blades a twist, and then push the pin into the centre of the wood plug K. See that the propeller runs quite freely.
You can make this jolly toy little thicker than a matchstick, i tom with

B and the dotted line C, and then mark out the windows and doors in the positions shown. The doors can be painted afterwards, but the windows should be cut out. Now, with a pin, make the holes D, D, at one-and-a-quarter inches from the side edges of the card.

To make the conical ends, take two pieces of card about the thickness of a postcard, and, with your compass, mark two circles each to the diameters given in diagram E. Mark out the edges as shown, and cut away all the parts F. F, with scissors and penknife. Now cut away the part G, and bend the card as if you were making a small lamp shade. Fasten the seam with two tiny brass paper fasteners, as shown at H. In the centre of one end, make a hole and glue in a short piece of round wood
RAG, TAG AND BOBTAIL.
Once upon a time there were three little mice who decided to set out on a journey to No-cat
Land,
"Let's go this very minute!" cried Rag
"I'm off!" cried Bobtail. "We can't go without getting ready!" cried Tag.
"When the sun's shining and the fields are full of corn, what is there to get ready?" asked Rag. "Come on, stick-in-the- mud."
Off dashed Rag, and left poor Tag all of a flutter. "I must gather a few grains," thought Tag, "and sharpen my teeth, and see that my claws are all right, and cut a little stick to
lean on if I'm tired."
Tag did not start till the next night, and there was no sign of Rag or Bobtail anywhere. Poor Tag was lonely, and ready to cry at anything. At last he came
to a stream.
"I never expected a sea here," he thought. "I'm scared stiff of

Slip another piece of card on each pin, glue each piece to the roof, and then bend the enda of the pins to form hooks. The other end of the car can now be glued in place with the seam underneath. -
For the little pulley wheels, obtain two curtain rollers like the one shown at R. The aerial rail on which the car runs may be a length of copper wire as used for wireless coils, or else a piece of fine smooth string. Slip the two pulleys on the wire, and then fasten the ends of the wire to two hooks, one higher than the other, so that when the car is hung on the pulleys it will travel along merrily. If the propeller works easily, it will rotate at the same time.

Barley Sugar.
Barley sugar has nothing to do with barley. Its name is said to be a corruption of the French suere brule, or burnt sugar, which was a very old-fashioned sort of toffee.
Put one pound of lump sugar into a saucepan, with a quarter of a pint of cold water and the white of one egg. Do not beat the white of egg, but just break it up before putting it into the water. Let the sugar melt slow- ly and when the syrup begins to thicken add a teaspoonful of lemon juice. Boil rapidly for a minute or two, then pour on to a buttered dish.
When the barley sugar begins to cool, cut it into strips with a water, and twist each strip into. sharp knife dipped into boiling barley sugar curl.
