Sixteen cases of diphtheria were reported yesterday, but, according to a statement made by Dr. Pope last evening, It is significant that a number of these cases should have been included in the previous day's total. Medical practitioners had been so overworked that official notification, in some cases, had been delayed one day. Of yesterday's 16 cases, 11 were Europeana and five Chinese, one of the latter being an imported case.
Three deaths, all Chinese, had oc curred during the week-ended on Boxing Day; and since then there have been no fatalities. The deaths' referred to can, therefore be re- garded as normal mortality in cases
