A representative of the China Mail learned on December 19, that the Acting Japanese Consul-General.in Hong Kong had written to certain persons served on the jury in the Tearg Foo Villas murder trial (heard in the Supreme Court on November 19-23 last) requesting that they supply parti .culars as to their respective ages, "for the purpose of com- pleting our record." The December Assizes opened on December 21, with five cases on the calendar, four of which, were instances of robbery, the other being one of indecent assault by a Chinese man on a girl, two years old. The latter case wisz heard by the Chief Justice, and occupied two days, during which a Chinese Sergeant Interpreter of the Police Force was subjected to searching cross-examination by defend- Ing counsel in regard to certain statements that prisoner had made. The cases are all reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
