Renewals and Improvements
323. Mainlaying. Work on mainlaying was mostly confined to providing for new development, the replacement of undersized pipes to improve the supply in areas where pressures were inadequate, and to alterations to mains where road construction necessitated it. A total of 158,746 ft. of piping, varying in size between 1" and 12" in dia., was laid, the more important work completed being as follows:
(a) In Ma Tau Wei Road between Chatham Road and Tai Wan Road. In conjunction with the reconstruction of this length of road, undersized 6″ and 7″ C.I. pipes were replaced with a 12″ pipeline, which will eventually form part of the outlet from the new service reservoir at Ma Tau Wei.
(b) Yau Yat Chuen Housing Scheme. A network of mains and submains from 8″ down to 1¼″ in dia. were laid to supply this new estate.
