Electrical Section

212. The maintenance of over 600 electric motors, 5,545 fans, 3,400 heaters and radiators, 868 cookers and hot plate and 1,160 water heaters and boilers in Government use, together with many miscellaneous items of electrical plant and wiring installations was carried out. The section was also responsible for the installation and maintenance of 1,000 domestic type refrigerators, and 98 separate air conditioning and refrigerating plant installations.

213. Installation of the air conditioning plant in the first section of the New Government Offices was completed and put into operation in January. Air conditioning plants were also installed at Government House and the Urban Council Chamber, while dehumidifiers were installed at the Peak School and the Grantham Training College. Work proceeded on the installation of air conditioning plants in the New Police Headquarters, and in the Film Censor's Theatre. In addition, room air conditioners were installed in the Kai Tak Airport Control Tower, the Blood Bank at Queen Mary Hospital and the Colonial Herbarium, Hong Kong University.

214. Lift installations completed under contract included two lifts at the New Government Offices, one replacement lift in the Fire Brigade building, and an additional bed lift at Queen Mary Hospital. Lifts have also been ordered for installation in the New Police Headquarters and the H.K.R.N.V.R. building.

215. Four sets of time controlled automatic traffic lights were installed at main road junctions on Nathan Road. Traffic island bollards, "Keep Left" signs and point duty stands for the Police were fabricated and erected at various locations in Hong Kong and Kowloon.

216. Flood-lighting and illuminations were installed for the Coronation in Statue Square, K.C.R. Concourse, Salisbury Road, Nathan Road and also on the G.P.O., Marine Office, Central Fire Brigade, Marine Police Headquarters and Kowloon Magistracy buildings.
