WHITE STAR LINE.
Loss of £33,400 on Year's Working.
London, September 18. The directors of the White Star Line, Ltd., (which was registered In 1927 to acquira from the Inter- national Mercantile Marine Co.. through the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., all share capital of the Oceanic Steam Navigation Co., Ltd.), announce a loss on the year's working of £33,400, after providing for interest charges.
On
No provision has been made for depreciation. No dividend was re- ceived by the operating company from the Oceanic Steam Navigation Co., whose trade
suffered severely from the depression. The dividend the 6% per cent. cumulative shares (guaranteed by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., and due on January 1, last, but not paid) will remain outstanding. The directors recognise, that the book value of the fleet and of shares in subsidiary casociated companies is substantially in excess of the real value.
The Morning Post's city editor states that although the. White Star | Line naturally showed no dividend from the Oceanic Company, it showed an operating profit of £86,897, presumably from the Aber- deen and Commonwealth Line (acquired in 1928), the only fleet it directly owned,

A contract for the construction of a new Guatemalan port open to 4th Nov. the shipping of all nations has been awarded by the Guatemalan Govern- ment to the Compania Agricola de Guatemala, which is affiliated with the United Fruit Company,
The port will be located between the mouth of the Nahualate River and a point seven-and-half kllo-
6th Nov. metres east of the Coyolate River. It is to bave a pler long enough to permit two vessels of 22 ft. draft to moor at the same time at low Lide. The plans are to be submitted 8th Nov. within two years of the signing of the contract and the port must be completed within five years of the
