170. A considerable amount of work was done in connexion with the planning and development of the New Territories. With particular reference to the rapidly growing industrial district of Tsun Wan-Ha Kwai Chung. Draft outline development plans of this district were prepared and are now under active consideration. Advice was also given to the District Commissioner concerning development at Un Long, Fanling and the Taipo Road area.
171. The Assistant Superintendent (Planning) was a member of the Sub-Committee of the Traffic Advisory Committee set up to consider parking problems in the Colony, the report of which Committee was submitted to Government in September. This officer also represented the department on the Inter-departmental Committee concerned with industrial development, and he prepared development plans for the Kun Tong area. Investigation into the resiting of the refuse dump now at Kun Tong was commenced.
172. At the end of the year, the provision of a number of sites for the erection of low cost housing were being considered.
173. Discussion took place concerning planning legislation and the use of the Town Planning Ordinance. The issue of regulations under this Ordinance was proposed.

174. The drainage systems of the Colony functioned without serious trouble during the year. A more adequate staff enabled many drainage improvements to be carried out and preparation to be made for future major sewage disposal schemes.
