MILE-OF-PENNIES FUND TO HELP UNEMPLOYED,

Perth, W. Aust- A mile of pennies, each one touching the other, it is said, would total £220. A white line ono mile long was marked on the edge of the walk in Leederville, a suburb of Perth, recently, and residents were invited to put their pennics on it. The sum obtained was to be devoted to the unemployment fund.

Some persons, generously, dis- posed, placed silver coins on the linc, instead of pennies. While this was gratifying, it upset the calculations on the above esti mate. Proof of the number of pennies in a mile has yet to be obtained by actual experiment,
