88. Farewell Pavilion & Coffin Store. This building was required to replace the existing buildings which had to be demolished when the construction of the new Stadium at Sookunpoo was commenced. Construction was commenced in December and was completed in March.

89. Kennedy Town Abattoir. There was considerable correspondence during the year with Messrs. William Douglas & Sons Ltd., who are designing the layout of the mechanical equipment for the abattoir. Many difficulties have been encountered in planning for the meat trade in Hong Kong, since it is impossible to operate a modern abattoir on the lines of the present slaughterhouse.

90. Messrs. William Douglas & Sons Ltd. submitted many detailed reports on the various aspects of this scheme, and by the end of the year, the layout and specifications of the equipment were nearing completion.

91. The abattoir is designed to serve both Hong Kong and Kowloon, and when completed, will have a maximum daily output of approximately 2,400 pigs and 240 cattle. Processing plants for edible and inedible offal and accommodation for a wholesale meat market and cold storage will also be provided.
