75. Malarial Bureau, Po Shan Road. The Malarial Bureau was accommodated in the old Marble Hall, Conduit Road. In order to free the site for the construction of the new Chater Hall flats, it was necessary to move the Malarial Bureau to a new site. Some existing accommodation at Po Shan Road was altered, and a new building, housing the laboratory and offices, was constructed.
Work was completed in October.
76. New Kowloon Hospital. The schedule of accommodation for this 1,200 bed hospital was prepared and examined in detail. Rough block plans were prepared to examine the suitability of the site at King's Park, and for estimating purposes.
Urban Services
77. Cheung Sha Wan Market. This single-storey market, with accommodation for 42 stalls and caretaker's quarters, was referred to in last year's report, and was completed in April.
78. Bridges Street Market. This scheme was referred to in last year's report and consists of a reinforced concrete, two-storey structure with accommodation for 59 stalls together with caretaker's and coolie's quarters on the roof. Work was completed in April.
79. Kennedy Town Market. Sketch plans were prepared and approved for a single-storey market with a pitched corrugated asbestos cement roof. Accommodation is provided for 36 stalls and caretaker's quarters. Working drawings were completed by the end of the year.
80. Kun Chung Market Extension. Owing to the irregular shape of the site, it was necessary to use a flat reinforced concrete roof instead of the normal pitched corrugated asbestos roof. The building is single-storey and provides accommodation for 43 stalls. Working drawings were completed.
