81. Latrines at Warren Street, Hong Kong; Baker Street, Kowloon & Carpenter Road, Kowloon City. These 40 seat latrines with caretakers quarters over and provision for future bath houses, which were referred to in last year's report, were completed in May.
82. Bath House Extension to Gutzlaff Street Latrine. Plans were prepared for an extension on the roof of the existing latrine to provide male and female bath houses. 30 shower cubicles are provided in the male and 13 in the female bath house. It was decided to experiment with the use of showers instead of the present method of filling tubs, in order to increase the numbers who could use the bath houses and to economize in the use of water. The showers are supplied with hot water at a predetermined temperature through a thermostatically controlled mixing valve, in order to prevent scalding and waste of hot water. Hot water is provided by two large gas fired boilers, which are thermostatically controlled. These were installed as an experiment so that the operating costs could be compared with those of oil fired boilers, which, although more economical in fuel, require much more supervision. Construction commenced in September and was completed in December.
83. Latrine at Tong Shui Road.
This single storey, 29 seat latrine with caretakers quarters attached was designed to be built over the nullah in Tong Shui Road adjoining the new tram terminus. Work commenced in September and was completed in December.
84. Latrine at Tsim Sha Tsui. This latrine is similar in design to that at Tong Shui Road. Work commenced in October and was completed in January.
85. Latrine and Bath House, Tai Kok Tsui. This two storey building provides a 26-seat male latrine and 13-seat female latrine on the ground floor, and 15-shower male and 12-shower female bath houses together with caretakers quarters on the first floor. Hot water to the showers is provided in a similar manner to that at the Gutzlaff Street bath-house. Work commenced in October and was completed in February.
