50. New Peak School. Details of this school were given in last year's report. Planning was complicated by the considerable differences in the levels of various parts of this very small site.
In order to reduce site formation to the minimum, the 9 classrooms, handwork room, biology room and teachers' rooms were designed as a two-storey building on an intermediate level of the site, with the dining room and kitchen in a single-storey block adjoining. The assembly hall and combined music room and stage were placed on a much lower level than the main building and are linked to it by internal staircases. This arrangement allowed the maximum use of the remainder of the upper levels of the site for playing fields. Work was completed in September 1953.
51. Alterations to the Technical Training College. Owing to the increased demand for technical education, plans were prepared to extend the existing college by adding 8 new classrooms for science, radio, drawing and commercial subjects. The working drawings were completed and construction was commenced in June and completed in October.
52. Extensions to Un Long Middle School. This scheme, providing 4 additional classrooms, a laboratory and handwork rooms, was referred to in last year's report. Work was completed in April.
53. Sha Tau Kok Primary School. This three-storey school will provide 9 classrooms, 2 handwork rooms and teachers' and headmaster's rooms on the upper floors and a covered playground, lavatory accommodation and caretaker's quarters on the ground floor. In addition, accommodation for the teaching staff, consisting of 6 small houses, 4 with a living room, two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and servants' room, and 2 with an additional bedroom, will be built. Construction commenced in September, and after delays caused by waterlogged foundations, good progress was made.
