NON-INFLAMMABLE PETROL.

Fuel That Quenched Fire.

A new type of petrol which, it is claimed, eliminates the danger of fuel fires, has been demonstrated by M. Henri Bardel, Technical Direc- tor of the Air Union, at Croydon.

K. Bardel flew from Paris in ar Air Union passenger plate which was using the new petrol, and at Croydon Aerodrome he proved the "advantages "of the "fuel by dropping lighted matches into a bucket of it. The fuel instantly extinguished the match fame.

The petrol, which is the inven tion of a French scientist. M. For- rier, is claimed after five years' research to be practical, commer cfully and techşically, giving more miles to the gallon with the same power as ordinary petrol, and to be 40 per cent cheaper in manufac- ture.

A WHOLE WEEK'S NEWSPAPERS IN ONE.

Should Hong Kong have a Municipal Council? Should Kowloon have one of its own? These questions form part of an address to Rotarians by Mr. L. C. F. Bellamy, which is, fully reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

A heavy toll was levied on native craft by a typhoon which passed over the Colony about a week ago. Details were gradually learned of the loss of over one hundred junks, with the practical' destruction of a fishing fleet, 'although fortunately the loss of life was not heavy. Full

particulars appear in the OVERLAND CHINA"MAIL.

Another chapter in the "stormy history" of the Sze Yap Steamship Company was written when a judgment handed down by the Full Court of Appeal reversed a pre- vlous decision of the Trial Judge that certain ex-directors he restrained from interfering in the conduct of the com 'pony's affairs. It was held that the notice of a confirmatory meeting, to pass certain special resolutions, was a bad one, and consequently the resolutions were not binding. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL reports the judgment.

***

A claim by Shanghai creditors to runk as preferential creditors in the Hong Kong liquidation of the Russo-Asiatic Bank having been rejected by the Official Receiver and Liquidator, application was made for an adjournment of further hearing so as to enable the applicants to obtain evidence to support their claims. This having been refused by the Chief Justice, the application was made the subject of an appeal to the Full Court. The Court upheld the Chief Justice in his ruling, holding that no useful purpose could be served by granting any adjournment. In the course of the judgment. reference was made to repeated efforts by outside creditors to obtain preference in the distribution of the assets in the Hong Kong liquidation. The judgment is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL also gives detalls of the scheme, approved in the Legislative Council, by which the Colony will take over the Nuval Arsenal Yard from the Admiralty, on payment of two million dollars, which sum is required for the construction of other Naval magazines in the Colony. It was, explained that the Government expect. ed fully to recoup themselves by sales of building lots in what is a thickly-populated and valuable residential ares.

*

After twenty-three days' liberty, a Chinese long-term prisoner who made a daring escape from Victoria Jail, in August, was recaptured by Police officers, without resist ance. A report appears in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

Sport, as usual, is ably dealt with by the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL, prospects, for the forthcoming Interports being discussed, and details given of the swimming' gala in which Hong Kong's selected for Shanghai took part, imme diately before salling for the North...
