JACK HOBBS CARRIES HIS BAT AND

SUTCLIFFE SCORES CENTURY.

GEORGE GUNN STILL ACTIVE

London, Yesterday. Two features marked the cricket during the week-end programme the scoring of a century in each innings by Ashdown, the third oc- casion upon which, this feat has been accomplished this season in County Championship matches; and the amazing bowling ßgures return- ed by Kennedy at Bournemouth.

Claiming 7 wickets for 40 runs in the first innings, Kennedy pro- ceeded to dismiss Leicestershire a second time for but 62 runs, thus setting his county, the easy task of scoring eleven runs for victory. In the course of the match Kennedy captured 13 wickets for 55 runs);

At Lord's, Ashdown opened his century account in Championship watches with secres of 121 and 103. Only two other players-Hearne and Hendren, curiously enough both Middlesex batsmen-have accom- plished the font this season in the county championship. Thanks to his fino effort Kent gained their twelfth win of the season.

The following were the most noteworthy batting and bowling feats necomplished during the week-end cricket programme:

COMEBACK UNCERTAIN.

Reno, August 19: "> Jack Dempsey, returning to the ring to-night after an absence of four years, knocked out Jack Beasley, of Oakland, California, in the second round of a scheduled. four-round exhibition match.

The bout was the first one of many to be fought during a six- months tour announced by the ex- champion" earlier in the month.

At the time the tour was an- nounced many interpreted it as meaning that the fighter was going'; to try a come-back, but Dempsey wouldn't admit that such was the case: He said that he wasn't sure that he could stand the strain of his scheduled two bouts a week during the tour.

Also at the time he said, "I will meet anyone but Walker, Sharkey
