SPECTACULAR RUN.

دنه

The outstanding feature of play in the final sessions of the Lindrum- Newman exhibition in Myer Emporium, Adelaide, was the rapid collection of a spectacular run of 2,609 by Lindrum, who thus created an Australian record.

In attaching another record to his belt of records, Lindram has taken from Willie Smith about the only record he had to his credit, fe,, a. 2,030 made against Clark McConachy in the Y.M.C.A. concert hall in years

COCHET TO BECOME PROFESSIONAL.

Henri Cochet, world's ranking amateur tennis player, who al moat single-handed defended the Davis Cap against Great Britain, has announced that he has planned to become a professional In the middle of September, Dis

Soon after the end of the challenge round of the Davis Cup tour- nament last year, Cochet received an attractive offer from Jack Carley, New York sports promoter, to join his troupe of professional players, but the, French star gave him the wrong answer, "declaring that he intended: to play, once more in defence of the Davis Cup.

Now that he has done his hit in keeping the trophy in France for another year Cochet finally has succumbed to the lure of the dollar sign and has announced his intention of deserting the ama teur ranks and playing for hard cash instead of cups, medals and other tokens of amateurlam, says the Manila Tribune. He will prob ably compete for the world's professional Championship against Bill Tiden, Frank Hunter, Karel Kozeluh, Vincent Richards and other pro

fessional stars,

Playing In the first round of the Lawn Bowls Open Singles Championship R. Lapsley (Kow- logn Rock) eliminated F. X. M. Silva (Recreio) by 2) shots to 14. Silvs held the lead up to the seventeenth, head, and the next four heads saw the pair, struggling hard with Lapsley, holding a slight advantage. A 4 and a 8 on the last two benda, however, gave Lap--year. sley, a comfortable-victory,

Cullen (Kowloon Dock) met G. N. Mitchell (also Kowloon Dock) on the green of the Club de Re- crefo and won rather easily. He now meets Oswick (0.8.0.0.) or C. G.Bilva (Club de Recreio)

Cochet's decision is a deathblow to France's hope to win the Davis Cup in 1932 as Cochat is virtually the whole team. With La coste, apparently out of the international matches for good and Borotra no longer the great bounding Basque of old, France will have hard time repelling either the American British drive next

ngnon has never been a great player, while Chris tian Bouseus and Pierre Landry have yet to show champlonakip call- bra for them to fill the shoes of Cochet, and Lacoste, where

An encounter between Cochet and Tilden should drawn record crowd. The two have been keen rivals for a long-time, with the Frenchman having the better of the dual encounters At Wimble don and in the Davis Cup matches: Cochet has taken the measure of the American star except once, In the 1927 challenge round.
