London, Yesterday. The sensation of the mid-week first-class cricket programme was the defent of Lancashire at Clac- ion. Essex balting first compiled the useful total of 436, O'Connor and Pearce scoring bright cen- turies. Lancashire falled by 54 runs to save the follow on, and in their second venture were dismiss ed by Kenneth Farnes for 116.
Huge scoring was witnessed on the Edgbaston ground where the match between Warwickshire and Natts produced 1,032 runs' for 10 wickets. After compiling the mammoth total of 511 for 3 wickets--declared-the-home-county- had the mortification of gaining only three of the five points nt* stake.
