17. Marble Hall Flats. Owing to the shortage of Government quarters, sketch plans were made for the provision of additional flats on two alternative sites, one the site of the old Peak Hotel and the other on the site of Marble Hall, No. 1 Conduit Road. The latter site was chosen for the erection of two blocks of ten-storey flats, with total accommodation for 94 two, three, and four-room flats. It was, however, not possible to proceed with detailed drawings during the year.
18. Caretakers' Quarters. Separate caretakers' quarters were erected for the flats at Leighton Hill, Queen's Gardens, and King's Park.
Police Department.
19. Rank and File Quarters, Canton Road, Kowloon. This scheme was referred to in last year's report. Work was completed in February.
20. Pat Heung Police Station. This was referred to in last year's report. The buildings were completed in July.
21. Sha Tau Kok Police Station. Details of this scheme were given in last year's report. Work, which was started in August, was nearing completion by the end of the year.
22. Police Headquarters, Arsenal Yard. Details of the overall scheme for the development of the Arsenal Yard site for Police buildings were given in last year's report. The first section, comprising Police Headquarters and a marine police station, will accommodate the central administration, communications branch, central control room, C.I.D., special branch, immigration office, traffic office, and quarters for 156 rank and file, 12 single officers, 3 married officers, and 1 married senior officer. The piling of foundations was completed in November. The construction of the basement was commenced in December to take advantage of the dry season and was nearing completion at the end of the year. Working drawings for the superstructure were commenced.
