The "concert" would start with a solo voice yelling "A Yah!" (a Chinese exclamation of pain), and then a chorus of voices would take up the cry, shouting alternately, "Ai Yah" "Kau Miang!" (Save Life!), "Sze La!" (Dying), and "Yam Kung Ah!
