Inauguration of British Edifice.

On Sunday

Sourabaya, June 2.

afternoon 'the in- auguration took place of the new British Church at Sourabays, the frat British church built as such in Java, as the present British Church

of Batavia, now over hundred years old was originally built for other intentiona.

The new. Church is a beautiful building of harmonious proportions while the interlor gives an impres sion of devotion. **

Among those present at the in- augural service, conducted by the Rev. C. Th. Cribb were the British and American Consula, the Governor

of the province of East Java, the Resident and the Mayor of Soura- baya, besides several other officials, whilst the Salvation Army was re- presented.

After the singing of hymns Rev. Cribb addressed the congregation was in- after which the Church augurated under the name of Christ Church in perpetual remem- brance that we, who belong to many branches of Christ's Church, owe our allegiance and devotion to One Master."

In his speech Rev. Mr. Cribb re- minded the congregation of the visit of the Bishop of Singapore, Right Rev. C. J. Ferguson-Davie, who founded at Batavia the Java Chaplaincy Committee, and of the visit of the Rev. Mr. Hunter who conducted the first British service at Sourabaya in 1910. He also brought to remembrance how the first gift for a British Church was due to the generosity of Mr. E, W. Townend, manager of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Cor- poration at Sourabaya...
