Only three relay stations have yet been provided for. The Newcastle station has been operating satisfactorily for the past few months, and is now the prin- cipal station in many hitherto "blind areas."

The second relay station is being constructed at Rockhampton

the northern part Queensland. A building for the third relay station is being erected at Corowa, but there has been no announcement as to when it will be (operating, dis area will be a por- ¡tion of the Riverina and Gippsland now being indifferently served by | Sydney and Melbourne "A" stations. During the past six months there has been a big addition to the number of commercial "B" stations. Those operating now exceed thirty, and at least twenty more are con- templated. Two or three additional "B" atations may be expected in the Sydney metropolitan area in the near future, including that which will be operated by the Council of Churches. Early last year the Post Office Department indicat- ed that the "B" stations would be kept on a range from 200 to 250 metres, but that proposal was so strongly objected to by the asso- ciution repreventing "B" stations that it wa nat persevered with. The higher wave lengths on which a number of "B" stations hitherto operated have been sanctioned for a further period, and new stations have got a high wave length "pro- visionally."

The necessity for new model high- class receivers having a flexibility varying from 200 to 645 metres le essential in the present state of broadcasting. Last year, when there were cricket descriptions by 2UW direct from Britain many lis- Leners were unable to tune their receivers down to 267 metres. Now
