SHIPPING FREIGHTS AND EXCHANGE.

Cold Storage Increases on Australian Route.

The recent news from Sydney, respecting freight rates would not completely have surprised any who have been following the course of Australian commerce and exchange movements, says a writer in The Times. The state- ment was to the effect that the shipowners have informed the Australian producers and export- ers that they are prepared to re- new for a year contracts expiring on June 30 next at the existing freight rates for all classes of cargo shipped overseas from Aus- tradio, but that they will need a made of the exchange surcharge on re- reconsideration to be

The shipping companies will, of course, carry out their agree ment for the full 12 months end- ing June 30 next, but since the terms were agreed the export od trade from Europe to Australia has dwindled so seriously thuted by, ships have to leave for Australia with very little freight space fill- ed, or even have to make the voy- age in ballast so that the lines have to look chiefly to the home-Bothacker, Miss V.
