THE CHINA MAIL.
one-act plays, "The Twelve Pound Lock" by Sir James Barrie, "In Port" a drama adapt- ed to the stзge by Norman Mc- Kinlay, and "The Stepmother" by Arnold Bennett, were presented by the Y.M.C.A. Amateur Drama- Lic Players in the St. Andrew's Church Hall last night.
The first plny was Л farce. and told of the knighthood to be conferred on Harry Sims (played by N. V. Halward) who doted on success. His wife (Mar- engages 3 typist garet Birt)
(Kathleen T. Curtin) to reply to congratulatory letters, and Sims discovers that she was his frat wife. The players acted with un- derstanding, and were warmly ap plauded.
"In Port" told of the visit of an
escaped convict (enacted by S. 31. West) to the house of Mr. Justice Atherley (taken by W. Robertson) who convicted him ten years ago. The play was very clever with a most humorous allmax. J. J. Ferguson
the Fletcher wa N ideal butler.
"The Stepmother" was, also a farce, and acting honours go to Wendy Orme, who took the role of Christine Feversham, secretary (enacted by Mar-
garet Birt), a popular novelist and a widow. G. F. Rees as the doc- tor (Thomas Gardner) gave good support.
The three plays were produced by Mr. W. Robertaon.
