The British submarine J 6 was British gunk by mistake by Q-ship. Lieutenant Carr in G 6 was chased and depth-charged by an American destroyer engaged in convoy service. L 2, under Lieut- Commander Acworth was depth. charged by another detachment of "went American destroyers, and down at a steep angle by the stern and hit bottom at 300ft."
Fortunately L 2 was able to blow ber ballast tanks and rise; but shej was hit just abaft the conning tower before her recognition signals were made out.
Submarining was a terrible busi- and its physical discomfort was appalling:
"Foul air, improper food, and breathing an atmosphere saturated with the fumes of crude oil and gassing batteries. Imagine trying to work out problems in navigation when your stomach was in such revolt that you worked with a pail beside you and cold, clammy sweat trickling down from your fore- head. The greatest agony was that one couldn't always be sick."

Mr. G. B. McClure, prosecuting, said that Treacy had known the girl since October, and letters showed that they were infatuated with each other. The two families were anxious that the affair should not be encouraged and the boy's stepfather.decided to send him into the Army or Air Force.
After Treacy and the girl had stayed out one night at Southend in December the girl was sent by her grandmother to live with an aunt On Jan. B at Palmers Green, N. Treacy went there to say good-bye. The girl went out with him and was later found stabbed in a partly built house. the chest three or four inches deep. There was no sign of a struggle.
