The Revuo des Deux Mondes publishes an interesting article by M. Robert de La Sizeranre on the Elgin Marbles, The question of whether the British Government should feel a moral obligation to re- turn the Elgin Marbles to Greece arouses greater Interest and is more frequently discussed in Continental counties than it is in Britain.

OLYMPIC GAMES.

ART OF COACHING.

Bloemfontein, Yesterday, The annual meeting of the South African Amateur Athletic Association to-day acceded to the' request of Mr. J. H. Viljoen, the well-known athlete, for monetary assistance of £100 yearly for three years to enable him to go to America to study the art of coaching.

Mr. Viljoen maintains that if| he studies coaching he will be far more useful to South Africa for the next Olympic Games than by remaining in the Union.

In reference to the holling of the Empire Games in South Africa in 1994, the Association has decided to uphold "the colour bar" and, in view of the condi- tions existing in the Union, not to permit athletes from countries like India and the West Indies to participate, "even at the risk of appearing discourteous."-Reu- ter.
