An eloquent tribute to the memory of Dr. John Anderson was paid by Sir William Hornell, Vice- Chancellor of the University, at the memorial meeting held in the Great Hall yesterday.
The meeting was attended by the friends and students of the ∙late Professor as well as by the
Professors of the various facultica. A resolution of condolence pro- posed by the Chairman was pres- ed in the customary manner, and is to be forwarded to the deceas- ed's mother and family in Scot- land.

The absence of a complainant caused Mr. Schofield in the Central Police Court this morning to dis- charge a rikisha coolie, Chau Yip, who was charged with the attempt-i od theft of a hat.

Sir Robert Ho Tung and six' others have formed a syndicate for the purchase of the Majestic Hotel for 18,500,000, should the Municipal Council decline the op- tion, which expires on April 15.
