ABOUT PYJAMAS.

COATS

[By A Woman Correspondent.]

Pyjamas, from having crept into woman's wardrobe in almost n

shamefaced manner (and how con- demned they were at first) are now almost the established night garb for girls and women. This has consequently given a great impetus to what we may call the "Pyjama trade." There was at first possi- bly a natural prejudice against the garment, but to-day pyjamas are recognised as not only useful, com- fortable, and practical but often beautiful items of our wardrobes, and careful thought is given to them. The pyjama has actually been the subject of a Government pronouncement (RM importance which its cousin, the nightie, has not yet achieved), for during the troublous days of the Great War, whilst women were still allowed to travel, the New Zealand government issued an order compelling all ed herself in the textile industry we women going by steamers to pro-and we have no need to search behubby have come into line theso vide themselves with pyjamas, ayand our own shores. very wise regulation in the days of German torpedoes.

EVENING, MODE.

Paria, Jan. 9. Lack of trimming was a con- spicuous feature of the latest even- ing gowns made for the Christmas rush to the Riviera, but one can- not definitely say they will remain in this state of simple unadorned elegance.

Weaves and fabrics are liable to influence eliminations. The ten- dency for "tle" and "bow" motife supplies an interesting mood, while wider sash bows take on a new importance by being dropped lower than the old-time bustle line

on evening skirts.
