ONE OF FOUR STANDARD MOTOR SHIPS.
Although we have given ex- tensive details of a number of the Silver Line ships, Jfew particulars have hitherto appeared concerning the four vessels which Harland and Wolf built and engined last year for this progressive concern, says the Motor Ship. These four ships are notable in having pressure- charged machinery which, if neres. sary, can be loaded to an output of 7,350 b.h.p. on twin screws, although the service power at sea is normally about 6,600 b.h.p. The names of the four vessels in ques- tion are Silvercypress,. Silvertank, Silversandal and Silverwillow,

The Silverleak and her sister ships are of the open shelter-dock type with a straight stem and il cruiser, stern. She is designed
with shelter and upper decke, lower tweer decks and two deep tanks, while there is a top-gallant fore- castle. There are six cargo halls, the capacity being about 640,000 enbic feet. Deep frames' are fitted and widely spaced pillars allow the holds to remain clear for enrrying large machinery. In the hold space are included the deep tanks with n combined capacity of 2,000 ions of liquid cargo.
No. 4 lower and 'tween deck hold is insulated for carrying fresh fruit and vegetables. The ammonia sys- tem is employed and the machinery

In conjunction with the latter a detec- tor is installed on the bridge. Foamite extinguishers are suitably arranged in the engine-room.

The Accommodation, In planning the accommodation for the officers and crow special care has been given to the furnishing and general convenience of the staff. There is an. owner's suite on the lower bridge, comprising sitting-room, two bed-rooms and a bathroom, the captain's quarters being above, while below is the dining saloon, adjacent to which are the deck officers' cabins. The en Fineers quarters are arranged round the machinery casing on the shelter deck, a separate messroom being located on the starboard side, In each cabin is provided an elec- tric fan, while mosquito screens are itted to every cabin door and ven- tilator. Showers are provided in the bathrooms for the officers and engineers. There is a refrigerator for domestic purposes and on ice Bill of Lading will be countersign-machine Is installed.
