On

policy to play him in this respon sible position. An old injury is. always a dangerous one and might quite easily handicap the fifteen with crippling effect. Ferguson,

on the other hand, is in perfect condition and should have received a trial on Saturday either through- out the game or at least during one half of the match.

At full-back, Whitham stands supreme, although his display was far from impressive in the final trial. It is very important that a full-back should find touch even if he gain but a yard of ground. A long kick ahead puts the whole fteen off-side and allows the op position to stnut either a movement or find a good touch. His handling and tackling are both good, and if he is able to find touch with every attempt we should have no qualms in this direction.

Strength at Forward. Seven of the eight forwards select themselves and, with two men of equal ability fighting for their place, I think that the best possible pack will be chosen. I should prefer to ace Milne Day in the fint row and Buttress in the middle of the back row. Buttress seemed tired to- wards the close of the game and 1 feel that fa could quite probably | be attributed to that extra amount of exertion required to be one of the first men down in the tightperative that someone serummages, whereas if he played in the back row he would be one of the last players to get down in the scrum, He has played constantly and consistently well in the back row, and it seems a pity that a good

forward should waste

The best available pack to mind of thinking is Peers, McElney, and Milne Day in the front row;

Turner is invariably cafe in front of goal, but he caused somo surprise when he missed a "aitter" in front of the uprights. Peera is a good kick if he can get the ball to rise. The Perfect Pass. *The passing of the three-quarters was not of a high standard and clearly proved that any advantage the centre three-quarters might have gained was completely lost owing to poor passing.
