The Cunard Shipping Company, be went on, were making an at- tempt to bring back the prestige of British shipping.
Sir Frederick Hall (Con., Dul- wich), welcomed the suggestion that the Government were prepared- to give this assistance.
There never had been a ship constructed of anything like this value its estimated cost was £4,500,000 to £5,000,000.
A Few Comparisons. The biggest ship in the world at present la British-the Majestic. Here are some comparisons in figures:
Majestic
Length Tons. in feet. 56,621 916 Leviathan (U.S.).. 59,957 907 Berengarla (British) 52,226 883 'Bremen (German). 49,864 899
If Leviathan wore measured ac cording to the rules adopted by British lines, her tonnage would be 54,282.
HONG KONG TIDE
The tide table given below has been obtained by ald of the Tide predict- ips Machine, which includes, 40. eam- ponents for the better prediction of tides, from the result of the analysis of the tidal observations, taken at the Kowloon tidal observatory under the direction of Dr. Dobesck during the years 1887, 1889 and 1899.
The times and heights are given for Kowloon; but they may be used
for the Victoria Naval Yard and Aberdeen, the differences being very small.
The times of high and low-water must not be considered to coincide with the times of slack-water and change of current, the two phenomena being quite distinct.
