SEMI-FINALS OF MIXED DOUBLES.

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS.

The semi-finals of the Mixed Doubles Championship, which were played on the Chinese Recreation Club courts yesterday, proved in- teresting encounters.

M. W. Lo and Miss Enid Lo de- feated M. K. Lo and Mrs. Keary in straight sets. The steadiness of the winners was largely respon- sible for their success. The first set went to ten games before M. W. Lo and Miss Enid Lo broke through their opponents' service but the second set was not so difficult to capture. M. W. Lo played a stylish game throughout, but his timing was not always perfect. M. K. Lo played brilliantly on occasion but, generally speaking, he was too errotic, Miss Enid Lo displayed to advantage a well varied solection of shots and played a splendid game. Mrs. Keary, who incidental- ly meets Miss Lo in the final of the Ladies' Singles Championship, took every advantage to exploit her powerful forehand drive, and lent valuable assistance to her partner on many occasions.

;

Below Standard.

C. A. L. Rumjahn, and Mira McCaw defeated L. Goldman and Mrs. Taylor in a fully-extended match. This match was not up to the standard set in the former one. The first set went to sixteen games before "C.A.L." and his partner won the set. The second set was loat after the twelfth game and the final set was completed after the eighth game. "G.A.L" throughout the last set, concentrated on Mrs. Taylor and his all-round display deserved victory, though 'Goldman and his partner played back pluckily and, if anything, were un- Goldman WAR fortunate to lose. prominent at the net but was not given much opportunity to exploit winning shots from the baseline. His service was excellent: Rum-, Jahn played an extraordinarily good game considering his recent illness. Rallies between Rumisha and Mrs. Taylor proved both spec- tacular and thrilling. Mrs. McCaw did not seem to be in good 'form in the earlier sets but she play- ed botter in the final set.

Full results:-

M. W. Lo and Miss Enid Lo beat M. K. Lo and Mrs. Keary 6-4, 6-3. CAL Rumjahn and Mrs. McCaw beat L. Goldman and Mrs. Taylor 9-7, 6-7, 6-2.
