BUT NO QUARREL.

Mr. H. D. G. Leyeson-Gower, chairman of the Test Match Selec tion Committee, in a speech at the Ferrets Cricket Club annual dinner, revealed that on no occasion was he called upon to cast a vote in the selection of any particular Test player.

Nothing could have been farther from the truth, he said, than the suggestion that he and Mr. A. P. F. Chapman (captain in all but the last Test) fell out. They were the best of friends.

their Having spent hours over task, the Selection Committee were saddened by the number of letters they received criticising, in most cases in bitter words, their work.

"I myself received over 400 let- ters, but nothing, I think, was more despicable than that, after R. E, S. Wyatt had been chosen as captain in the concluding Test match, he should have received a number of anonymous letters saying that he should not play, and in some cases cursing him."

On being told that, the Ferrets Club was composed of keen young cricketers who played their matches chiefly on grounds round about the South of London on Sundays, Mr. Leveson-Gower remarked, "Is not this a movement in the right direc- tion?"
