And so the old sea dog reached Hong Kong in 60 days from Aberdeen and pushes on to Vladivostock, as he is not doing this for fun and has to de- liver the trawler to the Soviet authorities there, for Russia has decided to cease buying fish and to catch and store its own. This particular one is the first to ar- rive, although it was the second to go on its journey, the first was speed passed, back around Singapore. Capt. turning to the Soerabaya Harbour, a big fire took place on board, the cause not being discovered at the time, and at one time the situa- tion was so serious that an S.O.S. signal was sent out.
A sudden bugie call rings out and the electric lights flash to with a brilliance that dazzles by its un- expectedness. Everywhere is a sea of hammocks, in long regular rows, slung to within three feet of the deck above.
From nearly every one a head appears which opens into a yawn, its owner springs out on to the deck and conversation fills the air.
