Another seizure of copper coins was made yesterday by the Cus toms officials, this time in an in- land waters launch lying alongside the Bund and running under inland waters certificate. It ap- pears that these coppers were in- tended to be taken to Shantung where there is probably a shortage.
The Tientsin Customs authori ties have purchased a launch for use in the Harbout. The boarding of steamers will be effected within Harbour limits before they come : alongside the wharves and the con. trol of cargo and passengers' lug- gage will be much improved. As.
ᎥᎦ the incoming steamers pass the last Native Customs: station about three miles down the; River it has been a very general custom for numbers of sampans to dodge in under the lee, or on the blind side of the vessel for various articles to be passed from the ship. So common is this custom that it is impossible for anyone using the River not notice it. With the putting into commission of the new launch, the

Customs authorities will have the means of meeting the steamers and boarding them as soon as they enter Harbour limits about 3% miles from the International Bridge. The new launch is being overhauled and repainted. It is the endeavour of the Customs
