STEWARD BEATEN BY A
CAPTAIN.
Alexander Kane, master of the steamship Bradavon, lying at Green- wich Buoys, was fined £5, with £5 corts, at Greenwich Police Coust for assaulting George Yoraton, a ateward, on the high seas.
at Preston, West Indies, on May 16, Yorston said that the vessel was when the captain went into his dabin, accused him of drinking, hit him, kicked him, and beat him on the back until he was 'blue all'over." Mr. Peregrine, defending: Does hot your record show you to be a thorough scoundrel?.
Yorsion disagreed, but admitted that he had "three bad discharges. He joined the Discovery, but did not go to the South Pole.
Mr. Foregrine: No, because by the time you got to Cardiff you were thrown out for drunkenness.
Yoraton: No, I refused to go because the voyage was too long.
Kane denied that he struck Yorston with a sugar-cane, and said that his injuries were caused by his falling down the hold.
