WATER POLO.

POOR GAMES LAST NIGHT.

The V.R.C. defeated the Somer- sets in a first division water polo match yesterday evening by 4 goals to nil. The game had few interest- ing features, the defences being strong on both sides. Several play- ers were obviously off form,

The V.R.C. led at the interval. by a solitary goal, scored by Roza Pereira. In the second half the same player added a second from a penalty, and his team put on two more before the end.

Fukien Beat Kowloon. The Fukien players easily ac- counted for the Kowloon second string by 5 goals to 1. This was a very poor game indeed, and some of the Kowloon players did not seem to understand the game at all. There was a lot of fumbling and scrambling about on both sides, but the Chinese players were more ag- gressive, and deserved to win.

Public Utilities.

The Incident at Southampton, (writes Mr. P. F. Warner) has naturally caused a good deal of dis- cussion. Many people maintain that the game should have been continued on Thuradny evening. On the other hand, there are those who say that, as the extra half- hour had been claimed and no re- salt had been arrived at, the two captains were right not to go on with the match. That they were strictly within their legal rights there can be no question, but it is doubtful whether an affair such as this does any good to the game.

This sort of thing has happened before, I recal? a match many years ago when Somerset, who were playing Gloucestershire, re- quired only 7 runs to win with an Innings to play at the drawing of stumps on the second day. W. G. Grace, the Gloucestershire captain, refused to go on, and next morning the Somerset players went in to bat in grey flannels and tennis Then shoes-but with pads on. there was the incident two years ago at Colchester, which will still be fresh in everyone's memory.

My own view, for what it is worth, is that, in the special cir cumstances, the game should have been finished off on the second evening. It must be remembered that from a financial point of view the third day's play must, have been a complete loss to Hampshire, and this is a point which, in the present parious condition of the majority of the county clubs, might well have been considered.

In law the two captains were dows of surrounding houses. Ten Cements (comb.)....$18.70...
