BLUE, THE FAVOURITE COLOUR

IN a paper on colour preference,

Dr. Dreever told the Psychology Section of the British Association that after a long series of practical tests he had ascertained that BLUE is the favourite colour of both men and

women.

This is probably because blue possesses intensity, which is at the same time reposeful. Only a few varieties may be really termed "cold" the intense rich tones of DELPHINIUM and ROYAL BLUE give a warm and satisfying effect in furnishing.

WARWICKSHIRE DEFEATED.

Tonbridge, Yesterday. Warwickshire suffered the in- dignity of being defeated by an innings and 120 runs in two days. The visitors could do little with the bowling of "Tich" Freeman, and tatted in a very unconvinc- ing style to scare the moderate total of 149. "Tich" came through the innings with the splendid figures of 8 wickets for 71 runs.

Kent found little sting in the midland attack and amassed the useful total of 429, Aahdown con- tributing 133, as his first century of the season, and Todd 94.

Requiring 280 to save the inn- ings' defeat, Warwickshire again failed before the wiles of Freeman and scored only 160, the little googly bowler taking 6 wickets for 72 runs, giving him the figures of 14 wickets for 143 runs in the match.

Warwick: 149 and 160. Kent: 429.

A proposal by, the British-American Tobacco Company, Limited, to establish a factory in Hong Kong, is fully and exclusively reported in the current OVERLAND CHINA MAIL. The announcement is all the more interesting. In that the public had been informed of new Government tobacco duties only the day before the news of the new Industry became known. It is understood that the site for the new factory has not been definitely settled upon.

The case in which Messrs. Andersen, Meyer and Co. are suing the Hong Kong Hotels Company in connection with certain refrigerating machinery has brought out some in- teresting, and often amusing, passages between witness and counsel. The OVERLAND CHINA MAID has a full account of the case, which has excited great interest locally.

A sordid tragedy enacted last April had its end at the Criminal Sessions, when a Chinese who murdered his work- mate was found guilty but insane. Medical evidence was to the effect that the man was suffering from murderous delusions of persecution. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL contains a concise account of the trial.

New piracy prevention guards have arrived in Hong Kung. They are White Russians, and have been specially recruited under the supervision of the Inspector-General of Palice, who made the trip to Shanghal for the purpose. All the recruits are tall well-built men, and form the "E" Div sion of the Hong Kong Police. Full particulars are given in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

The work of the Hong Kong Women's Guild and Ministering Children's League was reviewed by the Pre- sident, Mrs. W. T..Southorn, at the annual meeting held during the week. Especial thanks were due, it was stated. to Chinese who had arranged for theatrical shows by which the sum of over 54,000 had come into the funds. A complete account, together with the report and balance sheet, appears in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL

Sport, as usual, is fully dealt with by the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL staff, particular attention being paid to local tennis and lawn bowls during the present season.
